There were nine crusades, from 1095 - 1271 fought between the Europeans and
the Turks in order to take control of the Holy Lands. Inspired by pilgrims,
but often carried out as brutal warfare, the crusades are, to this day, an important
but controversial piece of history. These pieces are beautifully painted to
represent both sides in the dramatic struggle - of the crusades and of chess
